The Arizona State women's swimming and diving team is in sixth place at the end of the first half of the SMU Classic. The Sun Devils scored 112 on day one.
Ashton Aubry had the best showing for the Sun Devils. The junior flier placed second in the 100 fly, clocking in a time of 54.61. Freshman Penelope Yamauchi also fared well in day one of the invitational. The versatile swimmer out of Santa Rosa, Calif., placed fourth in both the 400 IM and the 100 breast. Yamauchi touched the wall at 4:24.11 in the 400 IM and in 1:04.69 in the 100 breast. The 100 breast marked the seventh event she has swum this season.
Other Sun Devils to compete in the championship final included Jen Beckberger and Sasha Stephens. Beckberger placed fifth in both the 200 free and in the 50 free, clocking in times of 1:51.34 and 23.87 respectively. Stephens hit the wall at 57.37 in the 100 back to place sixth.
The team will conclude competition at the SMU Classic tomorrow.
