Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Mindy Cowles went 4-for-7 with three runs scored and six RBI on the night as she launched two home runs to lead the second-ranked ASU Softball team 1-0 over Iowa and 16-2 over Radford Saturday night in Tempe during Day Two of the Littlewood Classic. The Sun Devils are now 15-1 overall as Iowa drops to 7-2 and Radford drops to 8-2.

A vicious pitchers duel boiled up in game one as Katie Burkhart went head-to-head with Iowa's No. 1 pitcher, Brittany Weil, with no more than five hits given up by either pitcher. Both pitchers were flawless through six with ASU compiling only one scoring threat in the sixth with runners on first and second with one out which the Hawkeyes diffused with two fly outs. Burkhart remained perfect through the seventh with two strikeouts and a ground out to bring up Mindy Cowles in the bottom of the inning to hit a walk-off solo shot to left center off the first pitch she saw to end the game and seal the 1-0 win.

Game two saw the Sun Devil offense ignite after a dormant first game where they rattled off 13 hits for 16 runs against the Radford Highlanders in the nightcap with four Sun Devils hitting home runs in the 16-2 five inning game. Megan Elliott took the win for her sixth on the season, allowing only five hits and two runs while striking out three.

The Littlewood Classic wraps up tomorrow as the Sun Devils take on Miami of Ohio at 1 p.m. in the final game. Games start at 9 a.m. in Tempe at Farrington Stadium.
