INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The third day of action at the 2007 USA Outdoor Track & Field Championships came to a close Saturday in Indianapolis, Ind., with four athletes with ties to the Arizona State University track and field program placing among the Top 8 in their respective events. In all, six athletes competed in finals of their events while one other earned a berth into the finals of her event following a strong showing in the semifinals.
In the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase, Lisa Galaviz (Aguilera) placed fourth overall in 9:43.54 while Kelly Strong (MacDonald) took eighth in 9:53.99. Jacquelyn Johnson, the reigning NCAA heptathlon champion, finished fifth overall with 5,826 points to round out the women in the finals. Johnson scored 774 points in the long jump with her 12th-place leap of 5.75m (18-10.50), scored 765 points in the javelin with the second-best mark of 45.10m (147-11) and added 792 points in the 800m run after running 2:22.31, the 11th-best time in the event.
Justin Kremer turned in a time of 47.06 to finish sixth in the men's junior 400m dash finals while former Devil Vince Mosca and current Devil Ryan Whiting competed in the finals of the men's senior shot put. Mosca ended the competition in 10th place with a toss of 18.98m (62-03.25) while Whiting placed 15th overall at 18.53m (60-09.50). The only athlete to compete in a non-final was Latosha Wallace, who placed fifth overall in the semifinals of the women's 400m hurdles with her time of 56.63.
Several athletes with ASU ties will compete in Sunday's final action, including Wallace in the finals of the 400m hurdles, Aaron Aguayo and Kyle Alcorn in the men's 3,000m steeplechase final, Jessica Pressley and Sarah Stevens in the women's shot put final and April Kubishta in the women's pole vault final.
