Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - Even with a new ASU single-season record being set, the No. 9 ASU Softball team was unable to top the No. 13 UCLA Bruins, as they fell 4-3 Friday night in Tempe in front of the 1,347 in attendance. Kaitlin Cochran batted a perfect 1.000 on the night grabbing her 87th hit of the season, a new single-season record. ASU falls to 48-15 overall and 12-8 in conference play as UCLA climbs to 36-15 and 12-8 as well in the Pac-10, the two will battle for second in Pac-10 standings in tomorrow's game.

The Bruins grabbed the lead in the first after a lead-off single from Krista Colburn followed with a costly Sun Devil error which kept the inning alive with two on as Megan Langenfeld dug in to battle back from an 0-2 count to push it full before rattling off a double to left center to plate two and give UCLA the 2-0 lead.

UCLA's lead didn't stick though as ASU stormed back to take two from them as Jessica Mapes grabbed first off of a Bruin error which turned out to be costly as Kaitlin Cochran was hit by a pitch before Mindy Cowles brought them both home taking a 3-2 pitch deep to right center for a two-RBI triple, knotting it at two apiece.

Kaitlin Cochran decided in the third to break two ties in fashion as she crushed her 17th home run of the season over both right field fences as well as set a new single-season hits record, breaking Ann Rowan's mark of 86 in the 1990 season. The home run also ties Cochran for the ASU Single-Season home run record, a mark her and Mindy Cowles set last year.

The Bruins had other plans though as a bloop single to the left side from Tara Henry was brought home off a two run bomb as Krista Colburn hit her seventh home run of the season to take back a lead they never relinquished giving the game it's ultimate final score of  4-3.

The Sun Devils will hit their home diamond once more in the regular season tomorrow as they set to face the #13 UCLA Bruins once more in Tempe at Farrington Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 1:07 p.m. with the game being televised live on Fox Sports Net.
