DURHAM, N.C. - The No. 20 ASU Women's Tennis team fell 5-2 in a match that pitted Devils vs. Devils as the #11 Duke Blue Devils defeated the Sun Devils at the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center in Durham, N.C. Sunday afternoon.
The Sun Devils found themselves off to a shaky start as they were unable to seal the doubles point with only the 46th-ranked duo of Rebecca Rankin and Nadia Abdala were able to top their Duke opponent, beating Tory Zawacki and Kristen Cargill 8-5 in the three spot.
ASU rallied back in singles as Roxanne Clarke took the first singles win of the day with a 6-4, 6-3 over the 77th-ranked Elizabeth Plotkin to notch it at one apiece. The Blue Devils came back to take the next three and seal the match win, even as Kady Pooler took a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win from DU's Tory Zawacki and Nadia Abdala and Rebecca Rankin both pushed their singles matches to a tough three sets.
The Sun Devils are now 7-4 as they prepare to take the road again in two weeks to resume Pac-10 play as they head to L.A. to take on USC and UCLA on Friday, March 16 and Saturday, March 17.
