TEMPE, Ariz. - For the second straight game, the Sun Devil pitching staff held the UAB Blazers bats in check, leading them to a 13-2 victory at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark. Brian Flores did not allow a run over his six innings of work, improving his record to 2-0. With the win, ASU improves to 9-3 on the season.
The Arizona State offense scored early and often, pushing a run across in six of the eight innings they batted. Eric Sogard got things started in the first, singling home Andrew Romine to make it 1-0 ASU. The Devils would make it 2-0 in the second on an RBI double by Romine that scored Rocky Laguna. ASU would put three up in the third to make it 5-0. CJ Retherford was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push the first run across, then a throwing error by the catcher would allow two more to score.
ASU would score three more in the fifth and four in the sixth to make it 12-0 before the Blazers would score twice in the seventh.
Flores allowed only two hits in his six innings of work, striking out five to pick up the win. Brett Davis, Scott Mueller and Adam Bailey each got an inning of work to finish out the afternoon.
Andrew Romine went 4-6 with two RBI and two runs scored and Eric Sogard also had two hits and two RBI. Raoul Torrez knocked in a pair of runs, thanks to a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
The Devils and Blazers will close out the three-game series tomorrow afternoon. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Winkles Field-Packard Stadium at Brock Ballpark.
