TEMPE, Ariz. - The 2007 Littlewood Classic wrapped up Sunday afternoon in Tempe, which saw the No. 2 ASU Sun Devils grab their 13th consecutive win on the season after defeating the UC Riverside Highlanders 8-7. The Sun Devils were led at the plate by Rhiannon Baca going two-for-two with four RBIs and a three-run home run and Kaitlin Cochran going three-for-four with two runs scored. The Devils are a perfect 13-0 after sweeping the Littlewood Classic this weekend.
The Sun Devils pounced on the Highlanders in the first as a lead-off single was brought home by a double from Kaitlin Cochran, a double from Bianca Cruz and a sacrifice fly from Mindy Cowles brought it to 3-0 after one. ASU rallied again in the third to tack on four more, with singles from Mindy Cowles and Caylyn Carlson being brought home on a three-run blast over center from Rhiannon Baca.
The Highlanders battled back, putting on a run in the second and two more in the fourth, sixth and seventh, but the rally wasn't enough as Katie Burkhart came in for the save in the seventh to shut the door on UC Riverside.
The Sun Devils will hit the road for the first time in the 2007 season next weekend as they head undefeated to the Palm Springs Classic where they will take on Illinois-Chicago, Mississippi, Oklahoma State, Long Island University and the national-championship runner-up, the #6 Northwestern Wildcats. The tournament runs from Feb. 23-25 in Palm Springs, Calif.
