Palos Verdes, Calif. - The second-ranked Arizona State women's golf team is tied for third place after the first round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estate, Calif. ASU shot a 16-over 300 at the par-71, 5,912-yard Palos Verdes Golf Club. Pepperdine currently holds the top-spot at 13-over.

"We played really solid for about 14 holes and in the last four holes we gave away about 10 shots," said Head Coach Melissa Luellen of their first-day finish. "We were just a little wasteful and sloppy at the end. We are only three shots out of the lead."

Leading the Sun Devils is sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz, who shot a 1-over 72 on the day to tie for fifth place. Fellow sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn shot a 4-over 75 to tie for 13th. Freshman Juliana Murcia tied for 19th after shooting a 5-over 76. Freshman Anna Nordqvist shot a 6-over 77 in the first round to tie for 27th. Rounding out the Sun Devils was redshirt-freshman Liisa Kelo who tied for 58th after shooting a 10-over 81.

"We are looking to come on strong for tomorrow and get us a win," said Luellen. "Tomorrow is moving day and we are in position to move to the lead. That is what we are planning on doing."

The second round of the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge continues tomorrow.
