TEMPE, Ariz. (AP)Sherell Hobbs scored 18 of her 26 points in the second half to lead No. 18 Auburn past No. 14 Arizona State 75-69 Sunday in the championship game of the ASU Classic.
Tamela McCorvey added 16, including a 3-pointer that gave the Tigers (8-0) the lead for good with 3:02 remaining.
Lauren Lacey scored a career-high 20 points and had eight rebounds for the Sun Devils (4-3), whose losses are all to ranked teams.
Arizona State went on a 14-4 run to erase Auburn's seven-point lead midway through the second half. But Hobbs hit a 3 and a layup in a 70-second span to cut the Sun Devils' lead to 63-62 with 4:10 left.
After McCorvey's 3-pointer, the Sun Devils twice got the ball off Tigers turnovers over the next two minutes but failed to convert. The teams traded baskets until DeWanna Bonner drove on Lacey, made the layup and a free throw to give Auburn a 72-67 lead with 14.8 seconds remaining.
The Tigers made three of four free throws in the final 10 seconds to secure the win.
Auburn is 11-3 against the Pac-10, all losses coming to Stanford.
