On the finals of day two of the Texas Invite, the Sun Devils broke another school record and had an individual champion and two automatic qualifying times, along with numerous consideration times.
Day two's finals began with the 200 medley. ASU's team of Jen Beckberger, Sara McDaniel, Caitlin Andrew and Jess Perazzo placed fourth overall. Their time of 1:41.06 was an NCAA consideration time.
CJ Nuess won the men's 400 IM. The senior, who had earned All-American accolades, clocked in a time of 3:44.51, an NCAA automatic qualifying time. His time also broke ASU's school record in the 400 IM, previously held by Gal Nevo.
In the 200 free, Beckberger touched in at 1:48.68 to place sixth. Her time in the preliminaries of 1:47.68, broke her personal record. Lindsey Brown finished 16th overall with an NCAA consideration time of 1:49.88. Also in the 200 free, Sean Boyle earned an NCAA consideration time of 1:37.44 to place third in the "C" heat and finish 19th overall.
In the 100 breast, Sara McDaniel placed seventh with a time of 1:04.07. Lindsey Russenberger placed third in the "B" heat and 11th overall after clocking in a time of 1:04.17. On the men's side of the 100 breast, Eddy Salcido and John Dwelley placed 16th and 23rd respectively with times of 57.13 and 57.16.
Andrew placed third in the 100 back. Her time of 54.11 automatically qualifies her for the NCAA Championships in March. Jamie Martinez also competed in the women's 100 back, earning an NCAA consideration time of 56.25. Her time also puts her at eighth on ASU's all time list. Ante Cvitkovic placed 11th overall and third in the "B" final with an NCAA consideration time of 48.69. His time places him at seventh on ASU's all time list, just behind current assistant coach Simon Percy.
The Sun Devils continue action at the Texas Invite again tomorrow. Tomorrow's preliminary trials begin at 10 a.m. CT.
