In a dual meet split over two days, the Arizona State swimming and diving teams lead UCSB on Friday. The Sun Devil women hold a strong lead over the Gauchos, 136-63; while ASU's men are currently ahead 114-85. The meet continues tomorrow at 11:00 a.m.

C.J. Nuess earned the team's first NCAA "B" qualifying time in the 1650 free. His time of 15:27.77 was almost five seconds faster than the "B" 15:33.05. The senior All-American also won the 200 IM in 1:51.79.

Jen Beckberger had a superb meet. The junior won the 200 free with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 1:50.06, 24 seconds faster than the qualifying time of 1:50.30. Beckberger also had a "B" qualifying time in the 50 free, with a time of 23.23.

Caitlin Andrew also earned her first "B" qualifying time of the season. She placed first after touching in at 55.19 in the 100 back. Ante Cvitkovic also won the 100 back in a time of 50.52.

Ashton Aubry earned her best 200 fly time of the season. She won the event with an NCAA "B" qualifying time of 2:00.72. Ashley Evans also earned an NCAA "B" qualifying time after touching in at 2:03.94 in the 200 IM.

Co-captain Steve Neuwert also earned a victory for the Sun Devils. The senior won the 50 free in a time of 20.66. Christine Mauro earned her first collegiate victory in the 1650 free. She clocked in a time of 17:16.15.

In the relays, both the women and men's 400 medley relays placed second with times of 1:44.62 and 1:32.64 respectively. The women's 400 free relay; however, added on another NCAA "B" qualifying time for the day. Caitlin Andrew, Jen Beckberger, Lindsey Brown and Jess Perazzo with a time of 3:23.69. The men's "A" team won their 400 free relay in a close race. The Sun Devils came in at 3:03.04 to best the Gauchos.

Diving was also scored, although UCSB does not have a diving team. Micky Benedetti won both the 1-meter and 3-meter springboard. The junior All-American earned scores of 361.60 and 349.80 to best his two teammates for first. Junior Erin Hobbs placed first in both events with scores of 267.25 and 248.75 respectively.

The Sun Devils continue their meet against the Gauchos Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
