ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Arizona State University track and field team concluded action at its first meet of the season Saturday afternoon as the team competed in the Dan DeHart Invitational inside the Albuquerque Convention Center in downtown Albuquerque, N.M. In the team-scored event, the No. 18 men scored 75 points to place second overall behind Texas Tech, who won with 88 points, while the No. 2 women scored 52 points to place fifth overall.

Sarah Stevens recorded the team's first automatic berth into the NCAA Championships on the season as she easily won the shot put with her toss of 17.86m (58-7.25). Stevens, who placed third in the event at the national meet one year ago, also set the facility record with her toss.

Ryan Whiting made his collegiate debut for the Sun Devils in the shot put and fared quite well as his mark of 19.19m (62-11.50) won the event and provisionally qualified him for the national meet. The 2005 Gatorade National High School Athlete of the Year also earned a position on the all-time ASU indoor lists as his mark ranks fourth.

Domenik Peterson was the only other winner on the day for the Sun Devils as he captured the 200m dash in 21.46, Overall, the Sun Devils placed four men and two women in the Top 3 of their respective events.

The Sun Devils return to action next weekend in Flagstaff, Ariz., as they compete in the Mountain `T' Invitational.
