TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State soccer team shutout Charlotte 1-0 Sunday at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Sun Devils are now 2-2-0 overall, while the 49ers fall to 2-2-0 on the season.

The Sun Devils dominated throughout the game, as the 49ers were unable to get a shot on goal. In total, ASU took eight shots compared to Charlotte's four.

The Sun Devils started out strong as the lone goal of the game came during the ninth minute of play. In front of the Charlotte goal, freshman Karin Volpe chipped the ball into the right post. The goal was the second on the season for Vople, while also marking the first game-winning goal of her career.

"I liked that we got an early goal," ASU head coach Kevin Boyd said. "I'm glad we were able to keep up our level of play, regardless of getting an early goal."

For sophomore goalkeeper Briana Silvestri it was both the second career win and shutout of her career.

The Sun Devils hit the road next week as they travel to Texas to take on Southern Methodist University (Sept. 14) and Texas Christian University (Sept. 16).
