Tempe, Ariz. - The Arizona State soccer team dropped its home opener to No. 3 Texas 1-0 Friday night in Tempe. The Sun Devils drop to 1-2-0 on the season, while the Longhorns improve to 3-0-0 overall.
The Sun Devils came out strong against the Longhorns, holding them to a 0-0 halftime score, and overall played a very solid game.
"I think we played very well tonight," ASU head coach Kevin Boyd said. "It was our best game so far. I think we outplayed them, winning everything on the stats but goals."
The lone goal for Texas came in the 51st minute of play as freshman Niki Arlitt found the goal off a pass from Brooke Lee.
In total the Sun Devils took nine shots compared to five by the Longhorns. ASU also took five corner kicks to Texas' one.
