Game Quotes from Game Three of the Regional BYU vs.
Coach Myers:
On today's game: "I'm pleased with how we played today. We came out and did what we had talked and planned on. BYU is a good team that we couldn't take for granted as a win. They're a great team, and they can step up at anytime to take one from us. We just came out and did what we had planned on and the team supported each other through every pitch."
On tomorrow's game(s):
"We haven't looked past the next game...we're looking to win the first one and head home, but for now our focus is on game one. If we get beat then we'll regroup and adjust to how we need to, but for now the only thing we're focused and intent on is winning the first one and the regional."
On having Burkhart as a pitcher:
"Well you see me smiling, and that shows what I think of having her as a pitcher. She's a special talent and she's grown-up a lot over the last few years. Being named Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year says something. That is a huge award which she deserved with every inning of work she put in this season."
On playing in the Pac-10 and how it prepares you for postseason play:
"The Pac-10 gets you ready for a big-time pressure game every game. If we at least win two-out-of-three from each team, we've done what we've set out to do. The Pac-10 is a phenomenally strong conference, and it prepares you for what you'll see from the rest of the country in postseason play as best as any conference can."
On the clutch two-RBI pinch hit:
"I was focused on what I had to do in that at bat, Coach called on me and showed confidence in me and I found that confidence at the plate as I settled in and waited for my pitch. I knew she was going to come inside on me after the first pitch when she got ahead of me in the count and I just found patience at the plate and my swing did the rest."
On what makes her special as a pitcher:
"It's my team. My team is so talented that when I walk on the mound I'm confident and comfortable, I can pitch my game knowing they have my back both offensively and defensively."
On having a perfect game until the seventh inning:
"I had no idea about it until the seventh when I gave up the second hit. And at that point there was nothing I could do about it. I don't worry about perfect games, they're so rare, that's why they call them perfect, I'm not out there to get one every game, I'm just out for a win with the rest of my team.
On BYU today:
"We had played them earlier in the season and saw the game that they played against Cal Poly the night before. We knew what they were capable of and that they were going to come out hot from that win and we were ready for it."
