Seattle, Wash. - The top-ranked Arizona State women's golf team is currently in first place after the first round of the 2007 Pac-10 Championships in Seattle, Washington. ASU shot a nine-over 297 in the first round.
Freshman Anna Nordqvist is in first place after the first round after shooting a 4-under 68. Nordqvist, who carded four birdies on the day, was one of only two players to shoot under par on the day.
Sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz and freshman Juliana Murcia tied for 12th after shooting a 4-over 76 in the first round. Sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn shot a 5-over 77 to tie for 15th. Senior Lindsay Anderson is currently in 45th after shooting a 13-over.
The Sun Devils look to claim its first Pac-10 title in eleven years. In the 20 years of the Pac-10 Championships, ASU has won six times, the last of which came in 1996.
Round two will continue tomorrow at the par-72, 6,196-yard Broadmoor course.
ASU entered the tournament ranked as the No. 1 team in the nation according to both Golfweek and the Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll. ASU also boasts two golfers ranked individually in the top-5 according to the Golfweek/Sagarin performance index. Nordqvist is ranked second and Osborn is ranked fifth. ASU is the only team in the nation to have two golfers ranked in the top-5 and one of only two teams to have two golfers ranked in the top-10. Munoz is ranked 11th.
