Tempe, Ariz. -
The second-ranked Arizona State women's golf team, spearheaded by a career-low day by Jennifer Osborn, expanded their lead at the PING/ASU Invitational at the par-72, 6,230-yard ASU Karsten Golf Course. ASU shot an 11-over 565 (285-280) for the second round, a 16-stroke lead over second place Vanderbilt, 581.
"It was really fun to watch today," said Head Coach Melissa Luellen. "The girls really have a focus of what they want. I got goose bumps on the 16th hole, the signature hole at ASU Karsten [Golf Course]. We played the hole 3-under par between the five players. They were really on target and swinging with no fear."
Sophomore All-American Osborn shot a career-low 66 in the second round to move into first place. Osborn has a two-day total of 136 (70-66).
"Jen started off really hot," said Luellen. "I was really proud of her to maintain her lead on the tougher nine [holes]. She hit a fantastic shot on 18 out of the thick rough. She hit it exactly where she wanted to hit the ball."
Also contributing to ASU's success, freshman Anna Nordqvist shot a 7-under 137 (69-68) to tie for second place.
"Anna and Jen are both looking to win their first tournament of the year," said Luellen.
Freshman Juliana Murcia shot a 1-over 145 (72-73) to tie for 14th. Sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz shot a 3-over 147 (74-73) to tie for 20th. Lindsay Anderson shot a 7-over 151 to tie for 36th.
Additionally, the Sun Devils have four golfers playing as independents. Junior Camila Sola shot a 10-over 154 (75-79) to tie for 50th. Junior Brooke Todare shot a 14-over 158 (80-78) to tie for 66th. Redshirt freshman Liisa Kelo tied for 70th after shooting a 15-over 159 (80-79). Senior Charmaine Erasmus tied for 80th after shooting a 17-over 161 (77-84).
