Bryan, Tex. - The No. 1 ranked Arizona State women's golf team continues to hold the top spot at the "Mo" Morial Invitational for the second straight round. ASU shot a 22-over 598 (303-295) in the second round to finish in first place out of the 15 team field.
"I thought our team played really solid today," said Head Coach Melissa Luellen. "The golf course was really hard. I thought we played really well."
Individually, freshman Anna Nordqvist leads the Sun Devils after shooting a 1-over 145 (73-72) and is currently in second place. Nordqvist carded three birdies in the second round.
"Anna's composure is excellent," said Luellen. "She didn't play her best golf, yet she is still in second place. If she can get her putter hot, she can pull out a victory tomorrow."
Sophomore All-American Jennifer Osborn shot a 5-over 149 (76-73) to tie for sixth. Fellow sophomore All-American Azahara Munoz is tied for eighth place after carding a 7-over 151 (76-75). Freshman Juliana Murcia shot a 9-over 153 (78-75) to tie for 14th. Junior Camila Sola shot a 14-over 158 (83-75) to tie for 35th. Playing as an independent, senior Lindsay Anderson is tied for 57th after shooting a 20-over 164 (80-84).
Arizona State is the only team with four golfers to finish in the top 20 in the second round and one of two teams to have three golfers in the top ten. USC, who is currently in second place, also has three players in the top ten.
"USC also played really well," said Luellen, who sees the Trojans as an obstacle impeding the Sun Devils effort for back-to-back first place finishes. "We are only two strokes ahead of them. It will be really competitive tomorrow."
The final round of the "Mo" Morial Invitational concludes tomorrow at the Traditions Golf Club.
