SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Arizona State University soccer team lost an early lead before settling for a 2-2 tie with UC Santa Barbara Friday night at a match played in Santa Barbara, Calif. The Sun Devils, who are unbeaten in their last four matches, improved to 4-1-2 overall on the season while the host Gauchos moved to 2-2-3 on the year.
ASU opened the scoring at 13:00 with freshman Brittany Doty hitting home a rebound off a corner kick after Courtney Crane, who was credited with the assist, attempted a shot on net. Doty's goal was her fourth on the season, giving her the team lead in scoring with eight points on the year.
The Sun Devil lead did not last long as the Gauchos scored twice before the intermission to take a 2-1 lead at the intermission. The goals scored ended ASU's streak of two matches in a row with a shut out recorded.
Looking to jump back into the match, Alissa Oldenkamp found the back of the net in the 69th minute to not only tie the match at two, it also marked her first career goal. The junior shot the ball into the right side of the net after receiving a pass from Christine Nieva, who recorded the first point of her career with the assist.
Defensively, Kim Bingham posted eight saves in goal while the team was credited with one save. Bingham recorded five stops in the second half to preserve the tie and force overtime where she picked up another three saves in the second overtime session.
The Sun Devils return to action Sunday when they play host to Pepperdine at 5 p.m. inside Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
