POSTGAME NOTES

Game 7: Arizona State 3, Oregon State 1

  • advances to an elimination game against at 6 p.m. (CDT) Saturday.  The Sun Devils improved to 43-4 this year when scoring first.

  • is the first team eliminated from the WCWS field and finishes the season with a 43-16 record.  The Beavers went 0-2 in their first appearance ever in the WCWS.  Both losses (the other was to ) came against Pac-10 opponents, who they beat at least once this year.

  • Today's vs. meeting was the fourth of the season.  The teams split the doubleheader in (3-2, 2-9) while took a 3-2 victory over the Beavers in .  In the all-time series between the two Pac-10 squads, now leads 59-25.

  • ASU's Heidi Knabe hit a solo home run over the left field fence in the top of the third to mark only her third homer of the season.  She hit one in the season opener against State (Feb. 9) and pounded two against on Feb. 19.

  • With 12 strikeouts in today's contest, hurler Katie Burkhart recorded her 22nd double-digit strikeout contest this season. 

  • 's Adrienne Alo came into the game hitting .750 (3-for-4) in WCWS play, topping all other tournament players.  ASU's Burkhart struck out Alo in all three of her plate appearances today.

  • Knabe's homer marked the 20th blast OSU's Brianne McGowan has given up this year.  It also marked the third home run McGowan had given up to the Sun Devils this season.  In four games against the Beavers, ASU has pounded six home runs.

  • McGowan recorded six walks in today's contest, tying her season high.  She previously gave up six walks to Baylor (May 20) in NCAA Regionals.

  • McGowan's solo home run in the bottom of the fifth broke up Burkhart's no-hitter and shutout.  McGowan hit home runs in both of OSU's WCWS games (both came in the fifth inning to break up a shut out).  She is the lone player to tally two home runs in this year's WCWS so far. 

  • McGowan's home run was the 25th of her career, tying her for fifth all-time on the OSU career list.  The junior shares the position with Steph Adams (2000-03) and is 27 shy of the all-time mark held by Tarrah Beyster (1997-00).

  • OSU's Deann Young was 0-for-her-last-15 until her single in the bottom of the fifth.  The freshman had not recorded a hit since playing Baylor in the NCAA Regionals (May 20).
