TUCSON, Ariz. - One week removed from competition at the Pac-10 Championships, several members of the Arizona State University track and field program headed south to the Arizona campus to take part in the 2006 Tucson Elite Classic Saturday night. One man and five members of the conference champion women's team took part in the meet.
On the women's side, Becky Holley won the javelin with a throw of 42.76m (140-03) while Stephanie Garnett jumped to 6.17m (20-3.00) to place second in the long jump. Jessica Pressley placed third in the discus with a toss of 53.93m (176-11) while Sarah Stevens, the Pac-10 shot put champion last weekend, finished fifth in the discus with a toss of 51.34m (168-5). On the track, Shauntel Elcock clocked a time of 55.66 to place fourth in the 400m dash. Tomas Navarro competed in two events for the men, finishing fifth in both the hammer at 56.44m (185-2) and discus at 50.32m (165-1).
The Sun Devils will travel north to Provo, Utah, next weekend as they take part in the 2006 NCAA West Regional Championships.
