PALO ALTO, Calif. - Four members of the Arizona State University track and field team competed at the Cardinal Classic at Stanford Sunday with all four turning in solid marks in the 5,000m run, including school record marks in the men's and women's events.
The women's race saw Victoria Jackson finish eighth overall in 15:49.03 to break the school record previously set in 2000 by Kelly MacDonald at 15:53.28. Amy Hastings also competed in the race and finished ninth in what also would have broken the record, 15:52.06.
On the men's side, Aaron Aguayo clocked in at 13:40.16 to finish fifth overall while Casey Burchill took 20th at 14:06.96. Aguayo reclaimed his school record in the event after Ryan Warrenburg broke the mark earlier this season. Aguayo ran 13:49.11 last year to break a 15-year mark of 13:51.40 set in 1990 by Todd Lewis. Warrenburg then clocked a 13:43.29 at the Mt. SAC Relays on April 13.
The Sun Devils will compete in the Pac-10 Championships in the coming weeks with the heptathlon and decathlon being held May 6-7 in Eugene, Ore., before taking part in the remaining events May 13-14.
