TEMPE, Ariz. - The Arizona State University track and field team sent several more athletes to the track in hopes of improving their qualification marks on the national scene as those Sun Devils competed in one of two Last Chance meets Saturday. Three men's distance runners competed at the Alex Wilson Invitational in South Bend, Ind., while four women and five men competed at the Iowa State Qualifier in Ames, Iowa.

At Notre Dame, Aaron Aguayo posted a mark of 8:02.07 to finish eighth overall in the men's 3,000m run while qualifying provisionally for the NCAA meet next weekend. His mark also stands as the second-fastest in school history. In the same race, Ryan Warrenburg just missed qualification as his 8:08.74 (16th place) was just above the cut-off mark of 8:07.20. The final competitor at Notre Dame was Rich Allen, who's 1:54.15 in the 800m run saw him place 22nd overall.

In Ames, Latosha Wallace led all runners as she clocked a 53.69 in the 400m dash to provisionally qualify her in the event and place her fifth on the ASU all-time indoor lists. She also anchored the women's 4x400m relay to a provisional mark and ninth-place finish with Christina Hardeman, Bridgette Williams and Shauntel Elcock running 3:38.26. The men's 4x400m relay of Jerry Jones, Domenik Peterson, Chris Adams and Jimmie Gordon also earned a provisional mark as they finished fourth in 3:08.37.

Individually, Peterson and Adams each ran the 200m dash, finishing in ninth at 21.36 and 12th at 21.64, respectively. Steven Koehnemann also ran in three races of the 60m dash, finishing fourth overall at 6.82. He also ran 6.85 in the preliminaries and 6.83 in the semifinals.

Those athletes that qualify will head to Fayetteville, Ark., next weekend for the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships hosted by Arkansas, March 10-11. The list of qualifiers will be released early next week following declarations.
