TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Matt Haryasz had a career-high 27 points and 10 rebounds, and Stanford held off Arizona State 70-64 on Saturday.

The Sun Devils had the ball with 42 seconds left, down 66-64, but Kevin Kruger missed a layup against the 6-foot-11 Haryasz and Serge Angounou was called for traveling with 20 seconds remaining after trying to get control of the loose ball.

Stanford's Chris Hernandez and Mitch Johnson each sank a pair of free throws in the final 15 seconds to give the Cardinal (8-7, 4-3 Pac-10) their fourth win in five games.

The Cardinal made 4-of-5 free throws in a 1:56 span to go ahead 66-61 with 1:47 to go. But Antwi Atuahene made an off-balance shot against Haryasz and was fouled, making the free throw to put Arizona State within two.

Stanford's Dan Grunfeld scored 15 points, all in the first half. Grunfeld missed all five of his field goal attempts in the second half, including a 3-pointer with 48 seconds remaining after Atuahene's three-point play.

The Sun Devils (7-10, 1-7) were led by Jeff Pendergraph's 14 points, also all in the first half. Kruger had 13 and Atuahene 11.

Pendergraph went 7-of-8 in 10 minutes before spraining his ankle with four minutes left before halftime, and the Sun Devils spiraled to their seventh loss in eight games.

Despite missing eight of their first 11 shots, the Cardinal rallied for a 35-33 halftime lead.
