TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University men's swimming and diving finished in 14th place at the NCAA Men's Swimming and Diving Championships in Atlanta, Ga. at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center Saturday. It marks the sixth time that Head Coach Mike Chasson has led the men's team to a top-15 finish at NCAAs and the eighth consecutive year the Sun Devils have finished in the top 20 at the meet under Chasson. Also, it is the 17th straight season the men's swimming team has finished in the top 20 at the NCAA meet.
In the 1,650-yard freestyle, freshman Gal Nevo (Kibbutz Hamadia, Israel) finished sixth setting a school record by touching the wall in 14:55.54. It is the second school record that Nevo has broken this season. Sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) finished ninth for the Sun Devils recording a personal-best time of 14:57.40. Azevedo's time marks the second-fastest time in school history in the event. ASU sophomore CJ Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) recorded a time of 15:12.27 to finish 22nd for the Sun Devils. His time marks the 10th-fastest time in school history.
Overall, Nevo recorded two top-10 finishes for ASU during the meet. Also, senior diver Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) finished second on both the one-meter and three-meter springboards. For complete results, go to www.ramblinwreck.com or www.ncaasports.com.
