TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University diving competed in the Zone E Championships Thursday at Oklahoma City Community College in Oklahoma City. The men competed in the three-meter event while the women were on the one-meter springboard.
Senior Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) captured the three-meter springboard title for his seventh career Zone E championship. Puhakka set an ASU record with a 879.95. During the preliminaries, Puhakka tallied 421.85 points. Senior Brant Bingham (Mesa, Ariz.) finished eighth in the three-meter event recording a score of 631.00. Finishing 13th for the Sun Devils was freshman Billy Sweeney (Tempe, Ariz.) with a 545.75.
On the women's side, freshman Erin Hobbs (Calgary, Alberta) finished 10th on the one-meter springboard. Hobbs recorded a final score of 509.00 and tallied a 251.10 in the preliminaries.
The Zone E Diving Championships will continue tomorrow at Oklahoma City Community College in Oklahoma City.
