TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State men's swimming and diving fell to No. 8 Minnesota 176-124 Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. The Sun Devils produced several solid individual efforts by taking first place in seven of the 16 events.

Sun Devil sophomore C.J. Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) won two events on the day including the 1,000-yard freestyle and the 400-yard IM. In the 1,000-yard freestyle, Nuess recorded his fastest time of the season in the event with a 9:13.49. Nuess also finished third in the 200-yard backstroke and recorded the team's fastest time of the season in the event with a 1:51.33. Senior David Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) touched the wall in 1:48.83 to capture first place in the 200-yard butterfly. Kolozar also had third place finishes in the 400-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly. Also winning events for ASU was senior Joey Clements (Rowland Heights, Calif.) in the 200-yard breaststroke and sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) in the 500-yard freestyle.

In diving, senior Joona Puhakka (Helsinki, Finland) won the one-meter and three-meter events for the Sun Devils, scoring a 426.80 and 434.77 respectively. Also, freshman Billy Sweeney (Tempe, Ariz.) recorded a personal season-best score of 263.15 in one-meter diving.

ASU men's and women's swimming and diving will continue its challenging schedule when it travels to compete at California and Stanford Jan. 20 and 21. After that, the Sun Devils return home to host Arizona Feb. 11 for its final home meet of the season.
