TEMPE, Ariz. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State University freshman outside hitter Margie Giordano recorded a match-high 16 kills to lead the Sun Devils to a Pac-10 opening three-game sweep over Oregon Friday night at Wells Fargo Arena. Game scores were 30-21, 30-20, 30-24 in favor of the Sun Devils.

Recording their fifth win in the last six matches, the Sun Devils improved to 6-5 overall and 1-0 in Pac-10 play. ASU also extended its winning streak over the Ducks to 15 straight matches (dating back to 1996) and are now 13-7 in Pac-10 openers. Under first-year head coach Jim Moore, Oregon suffered only its second loss of the season to fall to 10-2.

Giordano (Glendale, Ariz.) recorded double-digits in digs for the sixth time this year and fifth in last six matches. She also had two service aces and tied a career high with three blocks. Sophomore libero Sydney Donahue (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) continued her defensive dominance, recording 22 digs and added three service aces. Donahue lead the Pac-10 averaging 6.65 digs per game. Sophomore middle blocker Staci Smith (Gresham, Ore.) also had a career high with eight blocks.

Senior outside hitter Kelly Russell tallied a double-double for the Ducks, recording 15 kills on a .560 hitting percentage (15-1-25) and 10 digs. Pac-10 kills leader Mira Djuric was held to only eight kills on a -.120 hitting percentage (8-11-25).

The Sun Devils continue the opening weekend of Pac-10 play Saturday night against Oregon State at 7 p.m. at Wells Fargo Arena.
