Box Score

TEMPE, Ariz. - The 20th-ranked Washington Huskies (29-16, 8-7 Pac-10) used three home runs from their 3, 4 and 5 hitters to run-rule Arizona State (28-20, 3-13 Pac-10), 8-0, in five innings Friday night at Farrington Stadium.

UW gained the early lead in the top of the first inning when Kathy Fiske hit a three-run home run over the left center field fence off ASU starting pitcher Desiree Serrano (12-7).

ASU opened the first and second innings with leadoff hits from Bridgette Caron and Ashley Werschky off UW starting pitcher Caitlin Noble (14-7), but could not advance anyone forward.

The Huskies then forged to a 5-0 lead in the third inning when Aimee Minor hit a two-run home run that just cleared the right field fence.

In the fourth inning, UW extended its lead to 8-0 off another home run. With two outs, Dominique Lastrapes singled and move to second when Ashley Charters walked. That allowed Kristen Rivera to hit a three-run home run over the right center field fence.

In the home half of the fourth, ASU had its best chance to score when Valerie Sevilla opened the inning with her team-leading 13th double to right field. After Noble struck out Heidi Knabe for the first out, Werschky earned a walk for runners on first and second. However, Noble then got Kim Zadrozny and Jen McCard to each hit into a fielder's choice to end the inning.

Caron led ASU's offense with a 2 for 2 game. Serrano took the loss as she allowed seven hits and eight runs with four strikeouts. Noble pitched a four-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

Up next, ASU hosts UCLA on Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
