TEMPE, Ariz. - Members of the Arizona State University track and field teams competed at two locations Saturday with Sun Devils turning in more strong performances while competing in the Oregon Invitational in Eugene, Ore., and the NAU Invitational in Flagstaff, Ariz. In all, the men and women combined to record 11 marks that placed them among the Top 3 finishers in their respective events while 10 of those marks also qualified them for the regional meet later this season.
In Eugene, Aaron Aguayo led the charge for the distance runners on the track as he set the school record in the 5,000m run at 13:49.11, surpassing the 15-year-old mark of 13:51.40 set by Todd Lewis in 1990. Aguayo was followed across the line by Ryan Warrenburg (13:56.13), Velibor Radejovic (13:56.15), Juan Reyes (14:14.66) and Casey Burchill (14:35.85). Warrenburg and Radejovic earned places among the Top 10 on the ASU all-time list, ranking seventh and eighth, respectively.
On the women's side, Amy Hastings finished second in the 5,000m run at 16:11.28 and was followed by Victoria Jackson (16:22.68) and Desiree Davila (16:47.09). Jackson's time ranks as the ninth-fastest in school history while all three of the womens' times qualify them for the regional race. In the women's 3,000m steeplechase, Liz Lindgren nearly earned a place in the regional meet, but fell shy by 0.72 seconds as she finished eighth at 10:52.82.
At the NAU meet, three regional and three Top 10 marks were recorded as the field event athletes turned in impressive marks. Becky Holley won the women's javelin with the eighth-best throw in school history at 45.54m to qualify for the regional meet.
