PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Kyle Weaver scored 15 points and Derrick Low added 13 in Washington State's 64-49 victory over Arizona State on Saturday.
Kevin Kruger led Arizona State (6-5, 0-2 Pac-10) with 23 points. No other Sun Devil had more than seven.
Washington State (8-3, 1-1) held small leads most of the game. The Cougars scored the only five points in the first four minutes of the second half to boost their lead to 36-27.
Arizona State trailed 48-47 after Chad Goldstein hit a three-point play with 5:21 to go. Weaver answered with two free throws with 5:04 left, and the Cougars outscored Arizona State 11-0 after Kruger sank two free throws with 3:38 to go.
Bryson Krueger, Arizona State's second-leading scorer coming into the game with 14.8 points per game, went 1-for-15 from the field and scored three points.
Arizona State shot 35 percent from the floor. Washington State hit 46 percent.
Weaver went 4-for-4 from the field, including 2-for-2 on 3-pointers, and sank five of seven free throws. Weaver led the Cougars with four assists, tied for game honors in rebounds with four and added one steal and one blocked shot. He also played a key role in Washington State's perimeter defense.
The Cougars converted 20 of 26 free throws, compared to seven of 10 for Arizona State. The Cougars sank all 11 of their free throws in the final six minutes.
Kruger scored 14 points and went 4-for-8 from the field in the first half. He faced more defensive pressure in the second half and was held to nine points on 2-for-8 shooting.
