TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Jeff Pendergraph scored 16 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help Arizona State snap a three-game losing streak and beat Boise State 64-49 Wednesday night in the ASU Hoops Classic.
The Sun Devils (5-3) advanced to play Northern Arizona in Thursday night's championship game. The Lumberjacks beat San Francisco 70-66 in Wednesday's other first-round game.
Pendergraph scored seven points during a 15-4 second half run that broke a 29-29 halftime tie.
The freshman forward was making his second start in place of senior Allen Morill, who underwent surgery on his left knee Monday and is out for the rest of the season.
Coby Karl scored 10 points, five under his average, as Boise State (5-4) made just 35 percent (17 of 49) from the field. Kenny Wilson finished with 10 points for the Broncos, who had won three of their last four games.
Boise State came into the game averaging 76.5 points per game but missed 18 of 24 shots in the second half, including its last nine from outside of the 3-point arc.
Kevin Kruger had 11 points and four assists for Arizona State, which has been in its tournament championship the last five years and 36 times in the 39-year history of the tourney.
