TEMPE, Ariz. - The 14th ranked Women of Troy held off a pesky Sun Devils squad to earn a 3-1 victory over Arizona State on Saturday night at Wells Fargo Arena. USC took game one 30-22, but the Sun Devils fought back to take game two 33-31. USC came back to win the final two games, 30-26 and 30-17.It was Senior Night for ASU as seniors Giovana Melo and Sarah Watkins closed out their Sun Devil careers in Wells Fargo Arena.
ASU was led once again by Sydney Donahue, who recorded 40 digs, her second match of the season with 40 or more digs. It is the 14th time this season she has posted 20 or more digs, and has reached double digit digs in all but three contests. Junior Nicole Morton led the Sun Devils with 22 kills.
The Women of Troy took game one 30-22, but the Sun Devils battled back in the second game to win 33-31. Game two featured seven lead changes and 18 ties. USC and ASU played a tight game three, but the Women of Troy were able to pull away and carry the momentum over to game four, where they never trailed.
ASU falls to 7-19 on the season, 2-14 in the Pac-10. #16 USC improves to 17-9, 9-7 in the conference. The Sun Devils will now travel to Corvallis, Oregon for a meeting with the Beavers on Friday, November 25th (8 pm MST start). The Sun Devils will close out the 2005 campaign in Eugene, facing the Ducks on Saturday, November 26th (8 pm MST start).
