Tucson, Ariz. - The Arizona State volleyball team was defeated in straight sets by instate rival No. 8 Arizona 30-25, 30-25, 30-24 at McKale Center in Tucson, Ariz. on Friday evening. With the loss, the Sun Devils dropped to 7-15 overall and 2-10 in Pac-10 Play.

Arizona hit .264 on the match, compared to the .133 of the Sun Devils. The Wildcats also out-blocked ASU 5-3.

Junior Nicole Morton led the Sun Devils with eight kills and sophomore Sydney Donahue led all players with 16 digs. Donahue has recorded double-digit digs in all but three matches.

Despite an early lead in game one, the Sun Devils were unable to stick with the Wildcats, as Arizona used a 6-0 run to take the lead at 7-3 and never looked back. Leading by as many as nine (15-6), Arizona won the first game 30-25.

In game two, Arizona State took the lead early, but Arizona quickly tied the game at four, and then used an 8-1 run to take a 12-5 lead. Down by 11 (28-17), the Sun Devils went on a 7-1 run but were unable to overcome the deficit, falling 30-25.

The Sun Devils kept it close for most of the third game, but with Arizona leading 16-15, the Wildcats pulled away with a 5-0 run and went on to win the game, and the match, 30-24.

The Wildcats were led by senior Kim Glass who recorded a game-high 24 kills. She also added 10 digs, three assists, two blocks and two service aces. Sophomore Amy Dyck recorded 40 assists over the three-game match for the Wildcats, which included her 1,000th career.

The Sun Devils return to action next weekend as they travel to Stanford on Nov. 10 (6 p.m. MST start) and Cal on Nov. 11 (6 p.m. MST start). Arizona State's final homestand of the season follows the next week as they take on UCLA on Nov. 18 and USC on Nov. 19 at Wells Fargo Arena.
