TEMPE, Ariz. (www.thesundevils.com) -- Arizona State University men's swimming defeated UC Santa Barbara 173-161, while the women's team was defeated by UCSB 170.5-163.5 Saturday at the Mona Plummer Aquatic Center. Penn State defeated UCSB and ASU on the women's side Saturday.

ASU's meets with UCSB came down to the last event for the men and women. In the men's 400-yard freestyle relay, junior Richie Crowder (Los Gatos, Calif.) came from behind on the last leg of the relay to win the event for the Sun Devils with the team recording a time of 3:04.94. UCSB finished second in the relay with a time of 3:05.02. The Sun Devils also won the 200-yard medley relay by defeating UCSB by one-one hundredth of a second. Crowder also came from behind on the last stretch of that relay to give ASU the victory. Crowder also claimed the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 20.87 helping to lead the Sun Devils to victory.

Freshman Marcus Titus (Tucson, Ariz.) won the men's 100-yard breaststroke by more than two seconds with a time of 56.07. Sophomore C.J. Nuess (Medical Lake, Wash.) won the 200-yard IM and finished second in the 1650-yard freestyle. Sophomore Lucas Azevedo (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) claimed the 1650-yard freestyle and placed third in the 200-yard freestyle. Senior David Kolozar (Budapest, Hungary) added two second-place finishes in the 200-yard IM and the 100-yard butterfly.

In the women's 400-yard freestyle relay, the Sun Devils finished third, but weren't able to claim the victory in the dual meet against UCSB. It came down to the last relay and UCSB finished second in the relay with Penn State winning the event.

The women were led by sophomore All-American Caitlin Andrew (San Antonio, Texas) who won two events, including the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly. Andrew recorded times of 56.51 and 55.09 in the 100-yard backstroke and 100-yard butterfly respectively scoring 18 points for the Sun Devils.

ASU will travel to UNLV Sunday before returning to host meets with UCLA and USC Nov. 18 and 19 respectively.
