LOS ANGELES, Calif. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Despite solid performances from middle blocker Staci Smith and outside hitter Nicole Morton, the Arizona State Sun Devils dropped their seventh straight match to No. 19 USC Friday night in Pac-10 Volleyball action at the Lyon Center. Game scores were 30-28, 30-22, 31-29 in favor of the Women of Troy.
Facing their ninth opponent that has been ranked at some point this season, ASU falls to 6-12 overall and 1-7 in league play. The Sun Devils face No. 21 UCLA tomorrow night at 7 p.m. at Pauley Pavilion. The Women of Troy improved to 9-7 overall and 5-3 in league play.
Morton (Fallbrook, Calif.) led the Sun Devils matching her season high with 17 kills. Smith (Gresham, Ore.) added 12 kills on a .296 hitting percentage and also had one service ace and five blocks. Sophomore libero Sydney Donahue recorded her ninth match this season with 20 or more digs, logging a team-high 26.
Staci Venski led all players with 20 kills and middle blocker Bibiana Candelas had 17 kills on a .381 hitting percentage. Pac-10 digs leader Debora Seilhamer led all players with 27 digs.
