SEATTLE, Wash. - Brittany Cooper scored a pair of goals and the defense turned in another strong performance as the Arizona State University soccer team captured a 3-0 victory over host Washington Sunday in Seattle. The victory improved the Sun Devils' record to 8-5-2 overall and 3-1-0 in the Pac-10 while the Huskies slipped to 0-12-3 on the year and 0-4-0 in the league.

The victory gave the Sun Devils their eighth of the season, equalling the win total the team posted one year ago at 8-9-2 while their conference mark of 3-1-0 is one win shy of equaling their 2004 total. The win also was the 101st in the history of Sun Devil soccer with the 100th coming two days earlier in Pullman, Wash., when ASU defeated Washington State, 4-2.

Following a scoreless first half of play, the Sun Devil offense came alive with the senior trio of Cooper, Elizabeth Bogus and Manya Makoski having a hand in each of the three tallies. In the 62nd minute of play, Cooper broke the tie with her sixth score on the season as she sent a line drive to the top left corner of the net from 16 yards out after receiving a pass from Bogus, who was credited with the assist.

Then, just under 10 minutes later (71:15), Cooper scored again, this time with an assist from Makoski. Cooper collected the pass from Makoski before dribbling into the open field and firing from 12 yards out for the goal. Three minutes later, Bogus capped the scoring as Makoski fed a pass to Bogus who in turn dribbled past the keeper and shot into the empty net.

Defensively, starting keeper Kim Bingham recorded her third shut out of the season as she halted three UW attempts. With less than three minutes remaining in the match, JJ Stewart saw her first collegiate action as she replaced Bingham with 2:37 remaining and recorded one save.

With her three points on one goal and one assist, Bogus became just the second Sun Devil to record 80 points in a career and score 30 or more goals in a career. Cooper, who has 29 goals in her career, needs one more this season to join Bogus, who also ranks fifth for points in a season with 28 and goals scored with 11. Makoski is two assists away from tying the school record for career assists that is held by Stacey Tullock at 24. She, along with Bogus, have six assists on the season (tied for eighth) and need three more assists to tie Makoski's record of nine set back in 2002.

Arizona State closes out its home schedule this weekend when it plays host to the Bay Area schools at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium. The Sun Devils play host to No. 19 Stanford at 7 p.m. Friday night before capping the home season with a 1 p.m. contest with No. 11 California.
