PULLMAN, Wash. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- The Arizona State University Sun Devils dropped their third straight match in a 3-1 loss to the Washington State Cougars Saturday night in Pac-10 volleyball action at Bohler Gym. Game scores were 28-30, 30-28, 30-32, 30-16 in favor of WSU.
The Sun Devils fall to 6-8 overall and 1-3 in Pac-10 play. Washington State picked up its first conference win of the year while improving to 8-8 overall (1-2 Pac-10).
Sophomore middle blocker Colette Meek (Sherwood Park, Alberta) led the Sun Devils with 13 kills and sophomore libero Sydney Donahue recorded a team-high 33 digs (tied for sixth in ASU single-match record books).
Sophomore middle blocker Staci Smith (Gresham, Ore.) tallied a career-high nine blocks and freshman Margie Giordano notched her sixth double-double with 11 kills and 14 digs. Donahue and Giordano each had three aces.
The Cougars were led by 22 kills and seven blocks from Jen Barcus. Jalen Pendon had a match-high 34 digs.
ASU hit a season-low .106 on the night, committing 29 attack errors and 15 service errors. The match featured 28 tie scores and 16 lead changes.
The Sun Devils return to action next Friday at 7 p.m. against rival Arizona. The match vs. the Wildcats will be televised on a tape-delayed basis on Fox Sports Net.
