TEMPE, Ariz.- The Arizona State University men's swimming and diving team had eight swimmers and one diver in competition at the Dallas Morning News Classic Friday evening at the Perkins Natatorium. The Sun Devils finished day one in fourth-place with 126 points.
Opening up competition for the men's team was the 400 medley relay team of Bobby Crowder, Emerson Ward, Richie Crowder and Pat Fleming, finishing in a time of 3:24.63. Next in the water was CJ Nuess who took fourth-place in the 400 IM with a time of 3:56.72 while David Kolozar claimed third-place in the consolation final (3:57.63).
Jeff Barrett took second overall in the 200 freestyle in 1:39.48, while Richie Crowder took third-place in the 50 freestyle in 20.91.
In the diving pool, Brant Bingham took fifth-place in the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 268.05.
Kolozar swam in the 100 butterfly, taking third-place in a time of 50.52 while Bobby Crowder claimed sixth in the 100 backstroke event (52.47). Barely missing first-place in the 100 breaststroke was Ward with a time of 56.19, just off the winner Caleb Rowe of California who finished in 56.06.
Rounding out the day for the Sun Devil swimmers was the 800 freestyle relay team of Barrett, Azevedo, Kolozar and Bobby Crowder. The relay team finished in third-place with a time of 6:42.74.
The Sun Devil men return to action for the final day of the Dallas Morning News Classic Saturday, January 15 at 7:30 CST.
