OPELIKA, Ala. - Arizona State climbed eight spots to 16th before lightning delayed the second round of the 2004 NCAA Women's Golf Championships Wednesday, being held May 18-21 at the par 72, 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Course.

The Sun Devils moved from 24th to 16th in Wednesday's second round and stand at three-over par for the day with one player still on the course. A total of 12 teams were still on the course when lightning suspended play at 5:45 p.m. Central (3:45 p.m. Pacific) and will resume play in the morning.

UCLA leads the NCAA Championships after the second round by one stroke over Duke with a two-day total of four-under 572 (289-283).

Individually, freshman Tiffany Tavee (Gilber, Ariz.) is tied for 42nd to lead the Sun Devils after carding a one-under 71 on Wednesday for a two-day total of four-over 148 (77-71). Sophomore Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior Erin Tone (Gilbert, Ariz.) are tied for 55th. Tone carded an even-par 72 on Wednesday for a two-day total of 149 (77-72), while Kuczka was one-over par with one hole to play when the round was stopped after carding a 76 on Tuesday.

Other Sun Devils include freshman Charmaine Erasmus (Bradenton, Fla.) who is tied for 94th (80-75=155) and freshman Lindsay Anderson (El Paso, Texas) who is tied for 123rd (82-83=165).

UCLA's Susie Mathews holds a one-stroke lead in the tournament after carding a three-under 69 on Wednesday for a two-day total of four-under 140 (71-69).

The NCAA Championships continue on Thursday and Friday with tee times starting at 8 a.m. Central (6 a.m. Pacific). Live hole-by-hole scoring is available for each round at www.golfstatlive.com.
