SOMIS, Calif. - Freshman Tiffany Tavee shot a two-over 74 Monday to put the Arizona State women's golf team in a tie for fourth place after the first round of competition at the 2004 Pac-10 Championships, being held Monday-Wednesday at the par 72, 6,405 yard Saticoy Country Club.
Tavee is tied for third individually, while the Sun Devils posted a team total of 24-over 312 on Monday with a lineup comprised of mostly underclassmen. Second-ranked UCLA is leading the tournament after the first day with a 20-over 308. The host Bruins are coming off of a win at the PING/ASU Invitational held at the Karsten Course on April 2-4. Following the Bruins in second place are the Washington Huskies, trailing by one stroke at 21-over 309.
Arizona's Erica Blasberg is leading the tournament after firing a one-under 71 on Monday, the only player to finish the first round under par. In second is Stanford's Angela Rho with a one-over round of 73.
Tavee sits in a three-way tie for third place heading into the second round on Tuesday. The Gilbert, Ariz., native notched two consecutive birdies on her back nine to put herself in a tie for first place before giving two strokes back and ending the first day in third. Among the players tied for third include Bruin standout Charlotte Mayorkas and Sophie Anderson from California.
Other Sun Devil scores from the first round include sophomore Alissa Kuczka who is tied for ninth place with a four-over 76 and freshman Charmaine Erasmus who finished in a tie for 20th with a seven-over 79. Junior Erin Tone tied for 39th with a first-round score of 83, while freshman Lindsay Anderson stands in a tie for 47th with an 86.
Arizona State will begin the second round of play at 8:39 a.m. Pacific Daylight Time and will play with USC and California. Live scoring throughout the second round will be available at www.golfstatlive.com.
