OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. - Arizona State sophomore All-American diver Joona Puhakka won his second title in as many days at the NCAA Zone E Diving Regional as he took top honors on the 1m springboard on Friday afternoon at the Oklahoma City Community College Aquatic Center. Paired with his win in the 3m event on Thursday, he has swept the springboard events at the Zone meet for the second straight year.
Puhakka racked up an astounding total of 767.65 points to register the victory on the 1m. Junior Thomas McCrummen placed fifth with a score of 598.30, less than three points out of fourth place. Junior Gordon Blukis notched an eighth-place finish (587.50) with sophomore Brant Bingham coming in 15th (517.15).
On the women's side, Trisha Tumlinson placed second on the 3m (486.85) to follow her win on the 1m yesterday. Senior Jessica Stenson registered a total of 420.00 points to place 12th while freshman Cassidy Farwell came in 19th with an effort of 235.55.
The Zone E Diving Regionals conclude tomorrow with the platform competition. Qualifiers for the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships will be determined after the platform competition is complete.
