Box Score

CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP) - David Lucas had 20 points and 12 rebounds as Oregon State held off Arizona State 68-61 Thursday.

Freshman Kevin Kruger scored all of his career-high 20 points in the second half in his first start for the Sun Devils. Ike Diogu added 18.

Arizona State (9-14, 3-11 Pac-10) went on a lightning-fast 16-0 run to get within a point in the second half, but couldn't overcome the cushion the Beavers had built.

Chris Stephens added 15 points for Oregon State.

The Beavers (10-13, 4-9) made 13-of-14 free throws down the stretch to hold on.

Arizona State had a dismal first half, making just 4-of-21 shots (19 percent). The Beavers cruised into halftime on a 17-3 run, and the Sun Devils' 13 first-half points were the fewest the team had scored since Jan 30, 1992, when it trailed Oregon State 22-13 at the half in Tempe.

Diogu scored just two points and picked up three fouls in the first half. The Sun Devils missed 13 of their first 15 shots, but only trailed 11-6. Arizona State got as close as 11-10, but then the Beavers blew the game open. Angelo Tsagarakis hit consecutive 3-pointers to make it 22-12. Diogu picked up his third foul at 3:05 and went to the bench. Oregon State led 28-13 at halftime.

Kruger scored the Sun Devils' first 10 points in the second half, but the Beavers kept their commanding lead. Lucas hit a 14-footer at 7:58 to give Oregon State its biggest lead of the game at 51-34.

But Arizona State scored 16 points in the next 2:51, cutting the lead to one point. Diogu scored five of the team's first nine points, and Kruger hit a pair of 3s to put Sun Devils within 51-50 at 5:07.

Diogu, averaging 22.7 points a game, has scored in double figures in 55 straight games, a period that spans his entire career. It is the longest such streak in the nation. He had just two points at the half.
