AUSTIN, Texas - The Arizona State University swimming and diving teams finished the second day of competition at the Texas Invitational at the Lee and Joe Jamail Texas Swim Center with the women sitting in fourth place while the men are in seventh. The women recorded eight NCAA consideration times on the day, while the men notched three. Thomas McCrummen had a strong showing in the diving pool for the men, claiming first-place honors in the 3-meter finals. He finished second in the 1-meter on the first day of competition.

The women's 200 medley relay team of Erin Baldinger, Heidi Schmidt, Caitlin Andrew and Florencia Szigeti started off the evening events with a time of 1:43.52 finishing fourth.

Cara DeVinny swam in the 400 IM finals for the Sun Devil women claiming eighth-place with a NCAA consideration time of 4:22.68. Schmidt took fifth-place in the 100 breaststroke recording a NCAA consideration time (1:02.82) and put her name in the fifth spot on ASU's all-time top ten. Christine Creek took home top honors in the 100 breaststroke B-final with a 1:04.31.

Szigeti swam a NCAA consideration time (1:47.63) in the 200 freestyle where she finished fourth. Sandra Steffensen took third-place in the 200 freestyle B-final with a NCAA consideration time of 1:49.76. Schieman and Sally Brown swam in the C-final of the 200 freestyle, each recording NCAA consideration times and finishing first (1:49.12) and fourth (1:50.32), respectively.

Andrew swam a personal best in the 100 backstroke (55.30) taking first-place in the B-final. Her time puts her third on ASU's all-time top ten. Baldinger also swam in the B-final for the Sun Devil women, finishing eighth (57.18). The 800 freestyle relay team of Amanda Gillespie, Schieman, Steffensen, and Szigeti rounded out the evening for the women notching a NCAA consideration time (7:16.86) putting them second on ASU's all-time top ten.

In the diving pool for the women, Trisha Tumlinson finished second in the 1-meter springboard event with a score of 303.10. Tumlinson was the only Sun Devil woman to make the finals in both the 1-meter and 3-meter events.

Continued results from day one of competition for the men include a season best performance by the 400 medley relay team of Bobby Crowder, Emerson Ward, Steve McDonald and Jeff Barrett with a time of 3:20.08. The 200 freestyle relay team of Richie Crowder, Pat Fleming, Tom Hickman and Barrett lost a third-place finish with a disqualification due to an early start.

The second day of competition for the men saw one first-place finish and three NCAA consideration times. McCrummen had another strong showing in the diving pool Friday as McCrummen took top honors in the 3-meter finals with a personal best 337.15. Brant Bingham finished third with a score of 510.25.

The 200 medley relay team of Evan Rahaeuser, Ward, Russell MacDonald and Fleming finished third in the B-final with a time of 1:31.16, just shy of a NCAA consideration time. CJ Nuess took fourth-place in the 400 IM C-Final (4:00.23) while Barrett claimed second-place honors in the 200 freestyle B-final. His time of 1:36.62 is good for a NCAA consideration time.

The 100 breaststroke event saw the most action for the men with Ward finishing in eighth-place overall with a NCAA consideration time of 55.53. Joey Clements claimed third-place honors in the B-in the 100 breaststroke (56.01) while MacDonald and Leo Martins finished seventh (56.39) and eighth (56.43), respectively.

Rahaeuser swam in the B-final in the 100 backstroke, finishing sixth with a time of 50.60. Finishing out the evening for the men's team was the 800 freestyle relay team of Lucas Azevedo, Barrett, B. Crowder and David Kolozar finishing fifth with a NCAA consideration time of 6:36.77

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams continue action tomorrow in the final day of the Texas Invitational. The meet runs through Saturday, December 4.
