OPELIKA, Ala. - Arizona State climbed eight more spots into a tie for eighth heading into the final round of the 2004 NCAA Women's Golf Championships, being held May 18-21 at the par 72, 6,215-yard Grand National Lake Course.

For the second day in a row, the Sun Devils shot a three-over-par 291 on Thursday to jump into a tie for eighth place with Georgia with a three-round total of 892. ASU was in 24th place after Tuesday's first round and has climbed eight spots in the second and third rounds after firing a season-low 291 on both Wednesday and Thursday.

UCLA continues to lead the NCAA Championships heading into Friday's final round. The Bruins extended their lead to five strokes over second-place Oklahoma State, carding a two-under 286 on Thursday for a three-day total of eight-under 858. Oklahoma State is second with a three-round total of 863 followed by Duke (865), California (883) and Vanderbilt (884).

Individually, freshman Tiffany Tavee (Gilbert, Ariz.) moved up 19 spots on Thursday for the Sun Devils and is tied for 23rd with a three-day total of four-over 220 (77-71-72). Sophomore Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.) and junior Erin Tone (Gilbert, Ariz.) are tied for 37th at 223 after each carding two-over 74s on Thursday.

Other Sun Devils include freshman Charmaine Erasmus (Bradenton, Fla.) who carded a career-best 71 on Thursday to move into a tie for 62nd (80-75-71=226) and freshman Lindsay Anderson (El Paso, Texas) who is 125th (82-83-91=256).

UCLA's Susie Mathews and Oklahoma State's Karin Sjodin are tied for the individual lead with eight-under 208 heading into Friday's final round.
