TEMPE, Ariz. - Four members for the Arizona State men's track and field team competed at the Stanford Invitational Friday night with two of the Sun Devil men earning berths into the NCAA West Region and Pac-10 Championship meets at the end of the season. Three of the performances also went for positions on the all-time Top 10 lists in school history.
In the 5,000m run, both Aaron Aguayo and Roger Cahill earned championship berths with their performances while Aguayo ran a Top 10 time. Aguayo crossed the finish in 23rd place with a time of 14:06.88 and now sits ninth on the school ledger. Behind him was Cahill in 28th place with a time of 14:14.51.
Casey Burchill and J.J. Duke both competed in the 10,000m run with Burchill just missing a provisional standard for the national meet. His time of 29:48.62 placed him 37th in the meet and No. 4 all-time in school history. He also was just three seconds off qualifying for nationals (29:45.00). Duke finished 61st overall and his 30:39.81 improved upon his No. 6 position in the school lists.
Arizona State returns to action next weekend with the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. The meet runs April 2-3.
