RENO, Nev. (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Arizona State and Tennessee battled through 41 tie scores and 27 lead changes, but in the end it was the Lady Volunteers that inched out a five-game victory (29-31, 30-26, 24-30, 30-25, 13-15) over the Sun Devils during the second day of the SBC/Sands Regency Volleyball Classic.

Tennessee improved to 2-0 in the tournament and 4-1 on the season with the victory. Arizona State drops to 1-1 in the tournament after a three-game win over Gonzaga and Friday and stand at 2-3 during the 2003 season. ASU battled tournament host Nevada at 7 p.m. Saturday to complete the tournament.

ASU junior outside hitter Natalie Harris (Tempe, Ariz.) recorded career highs with 24 kills and 17 digs to tally her second double-double of the year and the fifth of her career. Harris also recorded three solo blocks and one block assist to record a career-high 27.5 total points.

Senior outside hitter Juliana Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil) tallied her third double-double of the year with 20 kills and tied a career high with 26 digs. Senior outside hitter Kim Mehlhorn (Tempe, Ariz.) tallied a season-high 14 kills on a .324 hitting percentage (14-3-34) and sophomore Sarah Watkins (Mishawaka, Ind.) contributed 10 kills in the loss. Senior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led ASU with 35 assists. Senior libero Stephanie Kohner (Anthem, Ariz.) also recorded a career high with 15 digs.

The Lady Volunteers were led by the 22 kills from sophomore outside hitter Amy Morris (Michigan City, Ind.). Morris, a transfer from Penn State, also had 14 digs and recorded a .349 hitting percentage. Freshman Cynthia Buggs (Compton, Calif.) and sophomore setter Julie Knytych (LaGrange Park, Ill.) each recorded 22 digs to lead UT. Knytych led all players with 47 assists.
