ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Arizona State's women's golf team wrapped up their first competition of the fall season this afternoon, placing 14th at the Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational after totaling a 63-over for the three-day tournament (309-308-322=939). The top finisher for the Sun Devils was junior Jamie Michaud (University Place, Wash.), who tied for 29th with an 11-over 230 for the tournament (77-74-79=230).
Tournament host the University of New Mexico dominated the team competition, finishing as the only team under par with a five-under 871. The Lobos also produced the individual winner, as Kailin Downs won the title by three strokes, ending the weekend at seven-under par (70-68-74=212).
ASU sophomore Alissa Kuczka (Phoenix, Ariz.), the Sun Devils' top finisher at the '02 Dick McGuire, finished just behind Michaud at 12-over (74-81-76=231), tying her for 32nd, while redshirt freshman Danelle Perata (Vacaville, Calif.) tied for 60th-place after carding a 21-over (77-79-84=240) for the weekend.
Rounding out the Sun Devil contingent were freshmen Tiffany Tavee (Gilbert, Ariz.), who tied for 67th at 24-over (81-74-88=243), and Charmaine Erasmus (Bradenton, Fla.) who tied for 85th at 31-over (81-86-83=250).
The women's golfers are back in action the week of October 6, when the squad sends golfers to the Washington Invitational (Oct. 6-8) and the New Mexico State Intercollegiate (Oct. 6-8).
