DALLAS, Texas (www.TheSunDevils.com) -- Behind the match-high 17 kills from junior outside hitter Natalie Harris, the Arizona State volleyball team evened their season record at 4-4 with a three-game sweep of Stephen F. Austin Saturday morning at the SMU Radisson Volleyball Classic. Game scores were 30-24, 30-17, 33-31 in favor of the Sun Devils.
The Devils won consecutive matches for the first time in 2003 and ended a four-match losing streak on Saturday's to climb back to the .500 mark for the season. ASU will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule this evening with a 7 p.m. match against tournament host SMU. Stephen F. Austin dropped to 3-7 on the season with the loss.
Harris (Tempe, Ariz.) recorded a season high in kills for the Sun Devils in a three-game match this season. She also added 12 digs for her fourth double-double of the season and tallied 19.5 points. Senior outside hitter Juliana Escobar (Brasilia, Brazil) returned to the lineup to contribute 12 kills and 16 digs for her fourth double-double of the year and 20th of her career. Sophomore Sarah Watkins (Mishawaka, Ind.) added 11 kills on a .375 hitting percentage and senior middle blocker Mandy Stephens (Napa, Calif.) also had a solid match, adding nine kills on a .529 (9-0-17) hitting percentage. Senior setter Cheryl Anglin (Queen Creek, Ariz.) led all players with 32 assists.
Stephen F. Austin was led by the 11 kills from Deborah Kirkham and the 10 from Lauren Stevens. ASU out-hit SFA .308 (57-16-133) to .144 (38-20-125).
