TEMPE, Ariz. - Jessica Scalzo (Fr., Snoqualmie, Wash.) competed in the 5,000m event for the women, also placing in the Top 10.
Bizuneh covered the course in 28:55.88 to come in just under the NCAA's national automatic qualifying mark of 29:00.00. The 10,000m run, as well as the heptathlon and decathlon, are the only events a student-athlete can qualify directly to the national meet. All other events' marks qualifies an athlete for one of the four regional events at the end of the year.
Davila and Scalzo qualified for the West Region event, to be held May 30-31 at Stanford, with their sixth and seventh-place finishes, respectively. Davila, the second collegiate athlete to cross the finish line, made the course in 16:17.45 while Scalzo completed the event in 16:22.18.
Next up for the Sun Devils is a weekend trip to Los Angeles for the UCLA Invitational April 4-5.
